Cars!

What can I say here that hasn't already been said better by someone else? That is a question that seems to haunt me but, as this is a space I created for myself and my own thoughts, I will endeavor to do my best to write something anyway. My obsession with cars began, many years ago as a child, like it did for so many others. Growing up in the heart of Nascar country, during the era of the first Fast and Furious films, and surrounded by need for speed, midnight club, and more, my love of cars was easily fueled by all that was around me. As I grew though, this passion dimmed briefly. As i began to drive myself and was introduced into the world of expenses, I quickly realized that I did not possess the necessary funds to continue this passion seriously.

During this time I still enjoyed the video games and movies but, drove conservative affordable vehicles. And my research into them slowed. Cut forward another decade though, and everything would change. I moved across the country and for the first time began to earn real money. I found myself in a big city for the first time. And suddenly surrounded with incredible cars and incredible people who were equally and often far more passionate. And from here, it was all over. I bought my first interesting vehicle a 2017 Challenger Scat Pack. I began my first foray into modification. I started simply, with exhaust modifications and aesthetic enhancements, some of which I look back on somewhat embarrassed by. But, I also started to learn how to perform maintenance and basic mechanics. I started to learn more about the functions of various components and my obsession grew. I started watching Formula 1, WEC, IMSA, and WRC. And then it truly spiraled.

Jump forward a few years later, the Challenger is gone lost to a t-bone accident. And I now work in the automotive industry. My knowledge far beyond what I ever imagined it might be when I started. I find myself with a passion that never seems to dim. And I think its for many reasons but, chief amongst them, the emotional draw of cars. Ultimately, the reason I love cars, the reason I work with them professionally, watch them for fun on TV, modify and show them off, playing simulation and other games, and continue to study them as a whole all comes from the emotions behind automobiles. The magical way that a large mass of metal, wires, sensors, plastics, and fabrics can unite is such a mystical way. The way that the sound of an engine revving, the look of cars profile in the glow of a 7/11 sign, the thrill of feeling a dive or roll in a quick corner can absolutely enchant the mind and grip the soul. The way that each of these machines seem to reach beyond themselves ans their parts and become something more. The personality they each have and show. Regardless of how much knowledge someone has, I think everyone at one point or another has felt at least a little something for a vehicle they've owned at some point. And that, that emotion is what drives me. That is why I love cars.
