Session 2
[Things written within these brackets denote OOC (out of character) conversation.] The adventure begins within the Inn (Athelgard Respit) in Oakhaven where we find Dax and Casavis. While sitting near the fire Casavis creates 6 stones, he assigns no properties at this time. He also spends time attuning new gun. The tavern maid approaches Casavis and takes his breakfast order, which is heavily Mexican, including a Virginia Slim. Dax approaches and joins Casavis while he tinkers, eats, and smokes. They make small talk about how they slept, Casavis reveals that he is a DIVA and does not do manual labor. Dax and Casavis leave after this conversation and head over to Sal's Farm.
Meanwhile, at the Wolfbane home, Sunny gets up extra earlier before anyone else wakes up, and picks the most romantic flower he can find and uses druidcraft to make it bloom and leaves it outside of Belladonna's room. Sunny and Belladonna have nice small talk (in which, he heavily implies that Arty left those flowers for Belladonna) in the morning, over breakfast. Arty prays to his god before leaving the room. Belladonna invites Arty to help her pick roots, to which, he agrees. Nerium asks about folks' dreams the night before, she seems disturbed. Sunny accompanies Nerium to Sal's farm. Finnrick, knocks at the door to the Wolfbane home. While they talk outside, Arty discusses things with Hemlock. Arty attempts to overhear the conversation between Finnrick and Belladonna. However, he is unable to hear anything other than the fact that it may be some type of disagreement or "louder" conversation. Upon failing this check, Arty quickly leaves and catches up to Finnrick. Upon catching up to Finnrick, he questions him about the conversation he had, White Knighting for Belladonna hard. Finnrick admits that he is waiting on answers to a question and is worried about the upcoming festival before leaving. Arty races back to check on Belladonna, who tells him that she is fine and just forgot about a few things. She replies that the only thing she is concerned with are things at Sal's farm, and she explains that she did forget the festival and some of the "Lords" (whom she does not like at all) will be attending the festival and now Finnrick really wants things to be extra nice. Arty goes to leave, and Belladonna gives him two more healing potions for the party. They exchange their goodbyes and Arty leaves.
Arty catches up with Sunny and Nerium on their way to Athelgard's Respit where they reunite with Casavis and Dax. Arty requests more rocky talkies from Casavis, who of course, produces them. Casavis has reproduced, and has a homunculus that is a 1hp Fox. (What does the fox say). [Jeff explains that with his nightmare fox he can actually communicate with us within a specific range.] Arty dispenses the healing potions to the rest of the party and Dax tries to pet Casavis' special little guy, who does not appreciate the gentle touch of a stranger. Nerium asks Cass and Dax if they have seen Rehema, to which, they answer in the negative. [D "Yeah I got some stuff to work out". ] [Argument about whether it is more fun to have a staff of birds or moonsword ensue] Arty uses the staff, birds swarm the inside of the Athelgard, and he chuckles to himself. And then the party leaves the Inn. [U: Can you make magical condoms? Because I know someone who might need them.... D: I'm not a condom type of guy...]
As the party approaches Sal's farm, that bad feeling vibe begins to set in again. As the party arrives, they see Rehema's legs sticking out of the snails shell. Cass requests that Arty goes to "help" Rehema. Arty approaches and asks if Rehema needs any help, however, her response is very muffled. Shortly after this muffled response, Rehema extricates herself from the snail and explains that she is, in fact fine, and was just doing research. She then explains that she has translated a portion of the runic carvings on the tooth, and she has translated them so far as such "Rise O’ Sovereign of Thanatos, Lord of Blood. We give praise to Pr-". Arty and Cass discuss how the Snail has come from the underdark to the surface. They consider the irrigation system or potentially the tooth being the way the Snail has arrived. Cass inquires about the safety of excavating around the tooth. Rehema says that she would prefer not to excavate around the tooth, she is more interested in the irrigation system. Sunny knows where the irrigation system entrance is at and points it out to the party. Cass says he can probably find the key in Sal's house. Cass is a talented snoop, and quickly finds the key. Arty lifts Cass up to help him grab this key. It's very adorable. Nerium gets a special note and has to return to town. Arty makes a come on to Nerium before she leaves. Sunny lights a torch from his inventory and the party proceeds to climb right on down below the Windmill to check on the irrigation system. Sunny's legs land in water as he gets to the bottom of the ladder. Rehema and Dax come down to the irrigation tunnels as well. The party see's that the tunnel splits in two different directions. Sunny advises that the best way to explore the tunnels is to follow the tunnel and take every right until you return to the beginning. The party follows his advice and takes the first tunnel to the right, while doing so, they hear water pouring from a further tunnel ahead on the right which sounds like the source of the leak. Sunny takes the next right headed toward the sound of the leak without hesitation. Upon arriving at the leak, the party sees that the tooth has grown down and up and in its downward growth, has burst one of the pipes. Cass offers to mend the broken pipe around the tooth such that it can still work while the tooth persists. Sunny agrees, and Cass proceeds to work on the repair, it takes three hours but, the craftsmanship is top-notch. As the repairs take place, Rehema translates more of the runes on the bottom of the tooth as they are more exposed now. Also, while the repair Sunny observes through sound that the water is draining further ahead in the tunnels. He intuits that the drainage may lead down to the underdark.
The party discusses whether or not to just seal off the tunnel to the underdark or to explore it. Sunny says that they should ask Nerium. They also discuss what to do with the tooth as well. The party sends a rocky talkie with the Foxmmunculous to meet up with Nerium and give her the rocky talkie so we can talk to her. As the foxmmunculous reaches Nerium, he sees her speaking with a person from the institute in Lesmira, that gives Cass a bad feeling. Sunny asks Nerium what they should do about the hole in the tunnel and the tooth after explaining what they found. Nerium says that she is about 30 minutes out, however, she does not want to discuss it until she arrives in person. In the meantime, while the party waits for the completion of the pipe repair and Nerium's arrival, Arty and Sunny goes in search of the drop off that Sunny heard earlier. Upon finding where the water is draining, they discover that it is a hole covered by boards. Arty casts light on a rock, and then uses Sunny's quarter staff to pry the boards apart and Sunny tosses the rock down the hole. It appears to fall a very great distance, well beyond what Sunny can see, and sounds like it lands on other rocks. Sunny and Arty return to Cass, Rehema, and Dax. Being so excited, Arty convinces Sunny to go explore the other tunnels as they wait for Nerium to return and Cass to complete his repairs. Fortunately, the two find nothing during their exploration and remain unharmed. They once again reunite with Cass, Dax, and Rehema. Cass sends his Foxmmunculous to the Inn to ask Sal if he knows what are under the boards covering the hole in his irrigation tunnel system. Sal essentially says that he has not really explored the hole in the tunnel system, and then he kind of goes off the rails.
The party decides to pry the boards open and find a ladder. Arty takes point and begins to climb down. Upon reaching the bottom, the party finds that there are various platforms and ramps leading further and further down, with lit torches and various other infrastructure. The party begins to investigate and find that this appears to be a fairly peaceful and well setup camp. There is imagery of the Goddess Elestray, the foil to Lolth. The camp appears to have been abandoned within the last day or two. Sunny has a bad feeling about this. Arty cannot find footprints or tracks but, does get the feeling that these people left either in a hurry or under some type of duress. Cass leads the party down to the very bottom to tickle the base of the tooth. The three of them try to reach the bottom quietly, Sunny is practically invisible, while Arty and Cass are... not so quiet. At the bottom of this pit, there are cultists. A lot of cultists. Luckily, the bulk of the cultists do not seem to see us but, two you drow children notice us, and tell us to be quiet. The girls explain that they live here and it used to be peaceful until these people showed up and started killing people. The older of the two has a necklace of fireballs and wants to kill these people when they sleep. Sunny says that he likes this plan. The girls say they think it may be about two hours until they go to sleep. Arty's armor is loud af, he gets us pulled into combat with the cultists. Roll initiative. We won!
Upon exiting combat, Cass quickly notices that the tooth thing is consuming the dead. The party knows from previous observation that this causes the tooth to grow. Rehema is inspecting the tooth. Sunny goes to check the loot chest in the far corner. Loot is divided up amongst everyone, though Arty is very concerned with trying to steal from these orphaned children. Cass continues to speak with the kids afterwards. They really fucking hate Arty. The kids agree to get help with Cass when we are all done. Sunny fires the remaining ballista into the tooth. Roll Initiative. The party narrowly kills the obelisk. It crumbles and sinks into itself. Everyone tops up on health. Cass then goes to check up on the kids. They are shocked... but, they are physically ok. Sunny leads the party back out of the tunnels. The party meets back up with Nerium. She is very frustrated. But, we explain casually that it was no big deal! Nerium then tells us that she will pay us more money as we did far more than originally hired to do. The party returns to the Wolfbane estate, we all take bathes and then sit down for a lovely dinner. And then we head to bed!
